UK and Recycling
Here at UKVending we pride ourselves on our commitment to the environment and our levels of recycling. As members of The Rainforest Alliance we have set standards that we adhere to and maintain every year.
So, it is disappointing when we continue to see levels of recycling falling across the United Kingdom. Some of the latest results indicate the following statistics here in the United Kingdom:
Around 700,000 plastic bottles a day end up us litter
This is largely due to plastic wrapping around bottles that are non-recyclable.
Every year, the UK throws away 2.5 billion ‘paper’ cups, amounting to 5,000 cups a minute!
Shockingly, less than 0.4 per cent of these are subsequently recycled as most cups come with a thin layer of plastic. This plastic used to be a problem, but this issue has mostly now been resolved.
Five specialist recycling plants in the UK have the capacity to recycle all the cups used on our high streets.
What is the simplest way to ensure that this situation does not continue? Make sure you discard the paper cups correctly in the recycling.
