Sweeteners ‘are not healthier’
If you’ve been thinking about substituting the sugar in your tea or coffee for sweetener believing it’s the healthier option, think again says The World Health Organisation as they believe it can cause health problems further down the line.
The advice suggests people should not turn to non-sugar sweeteners such as aspartame, saccharin or stevia in a bid to lose weight or prevent diet related diseases such as type 2 diabetes.
In French research, 103,000 adults were tested and the results suggested that the sweeteners could be the root cause of many health related problems amongst the survey group. The World Health Organisation suggests that instead of sugar or sweeteners people should try to eat foods that naturally contact sugars such as fruit. Furthermore, retraining your brain to avoid the need for sugary treats in the first place is the best possible route.
