Pandemic versus Chocolate
With almost everyone hold up at home practising social distancing and keeping safe it seems that we have found a new way to combat our isolation…with chocolate.
During the Covid-19 pandemic sales of chocolate has soared by 37 per cent. American figures indicate that this equates to some $96.15 billion in the third quarter of 2020.
eCommerce data reveals that chocolate sales on Amazon were up by 78 per cent year on year. Compared to 2020 this month alone has seen online searches for ‘chocolate’ are up 1,600 per cent.
The top 10 brands are all the usual suspects with orders placed for Lindt, Ferrero and Hotel Chocolat but amongst these big players it is nice to see a Fairtrade chocolate brand by the name of Tony’s Chocolonely is seeing a huge increase in sales.
