How chocolate is made?
Ever wondered how your favourite chocolate bar is made. Wonder no longer.
The road from a cocoa tree to a bar of chocolate is a long one. Each tree takes up to eight years to mature enough to bare fruit. Once harvested the pods are split open and then the beans are dried in the sun. Once this has been done the beans are taken out of their shell leaving behind the chocolate nib. These are then roasted and crushed. The powder that remains is a very raw form of chocolate and from this all kind of wonderful treats can be made by adding sugars, milks, and fats in a process developed by Swiss chemists Daniel Peter and Henri Nestle.
