Brew me my bean free coffee
We have all become very accustomed to coffee derived from, err coffee beans haven’t we? Well in the future, we may enjoy the taste of ‘coffee’s’ derived from other sources including chickpeas. US food-tech company Voyage Foods has introduced a new ‘bean free’ coffee derived from roasting chickpeas, rice hulls and green tea derived caffeine.
The company has said that it is up to 40 per cent cheaper than traditional coffee, which it suggests could halt to rise in coffee costs, both of manufacture and for customers. The coffee growing areas of the world are increasingly subject to extreme weather conditions and climate change making the future of coffee plantations around the globe in danger.
