Bathroom bottles battle
Here at UKVending we take our responsibilities towards the environment around us very seriously. We recycle everything that can be recycled and source from suppliers who share our views. Our water bottles are recycled but according to a recent study it isn’t just water or soft drinks bottles that are filling up landfills around the country.
The staggering statistic is that the average Brit uses 19,665 plastic cosmetic bottles throughout their lifetime. If put end to end that number could easily measure four times higher than the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. Or to put it another way at 152 tons it is eleven times heavier than the weight of the bell of Big Ben.
The survey discovered that almost every bathroom up and down the country has at least two empty plastic bottles waiting to be recycled, that’s approximately 40 grams of plastic in each of the 3.8million bathrooms in the UK – a total of 152,000kg, which dwarfs the 137,000kg of Big Ben.
The good news is that the environmental message is slowly getting through with most adults in the UK recycling the products they use with the average adult disposing of 312 plastic bottles a year. It also emerged six in ten adults want to be more sustainable in their everyday life but don’t know where to start, with a third saying there’s just not enough plastic-free or options made from recycled plastic.
And 81 percent would like to see more alternative plastic free products available.
